Wayne was hungry and exhausted, he wondered how long he could go on working non-stop under such terrible conditions, he and everyone on the planet were slaves. Slaves to an alien race that ravaged our planet for resources and forced every human to do their bidding which included working beyond normal limits. There is no mercy as we are just insignificant insects to this alien race.
Our demise was partly our own doing, we stopped thinking for ourselves decades ago, we allowed A.I. driven technology to take over our everyday tasks as we became lazier and lazier, replacing real life experiences with virtual realities.
By the time we realized what was going on, our enemy had infiltrated all our defenses, using our technology against us to quickly disable the entire planet. Humans are now herded like sheep, taken to work camps where they must physically toil, under miserable conditions, until they are inevitably worked to death.
As Wayne stood there lost in thought he suddenly heard music, he was immediately shocked, no one has heard music since the alien take-over. He listened attentively to the lyrics: "There must be lights burning brighter somewhere. Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue. If I can dream of a better land Where all my brothers walk hand in hand. Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true."
Elvis, he thought, yes that is Elvis, his mind was racing with excitement, he moved towards the sound of music and looked out past the opening in his prison wall and saw a sight that almost stopped his heart, standing just outside the wall was a woman, in combat gear, carrying a rifle. She was wearing some sort of bandana over her face but he could tell she was smiling. He stood there transfixed, she stepped closer and said "stand back, the U.S. Marines are here and we're taking back our planet.”
